This program is basically your vanilla type registry cleaner that is very simple to use and has an easy interface. Each menu item is self explanatory: scan your registry, optimize your system, monitor your registry, compact your registry, tune-up your services, and restore. The user interface has menu items on the left hand side of the screen and on the center of the screen. Other tools that are available on the Registry Mechanic are being able to manage computer files, creating a Windows System Restore, create Windows updates, view system information, view and manage system properties, and access your control panel. Basically all of these features can be accessed from your computer’s control panel but Registry Mechanic places them in an easier to access. The gist of the program is that it will and effectively scan your Windows registry for errors that could possibility slow down your computer, which can make your system unstable or worse, crash your entire computer. The program performs a wide variety of scans and will scan your computer’s shared DLLs, start up programs, add/remove programs, virtual devices, file extensions, temp files, and custom controls. On my computer, the scan took about 20 seconds and it was able to find 76 problems with my computer.

Some of the “high priority” items from the scan were unstable removed files from a TurboTax program that I previously had on my computer awhile back. The results screen will show which items that program found and has deemed to have errors. You can go through each list and see just exactly the error that occurred in various categories. Once all items are scanned and your satisfied with the results, you can go to the repair section of the program, clicking repair will automatically repair all of the items and if you are not satisfied with the results, you can always restore your computer to its previous settings. However, in the trial version, you are only limited to 6 scanned results so unfortunately, it is hard to determine just how effective the Registry Mechanic is. This is an unfortunate let down of this program as trial users do not get to see the full effect of the program. If you do want to register the software, you can pay $25 for the full-version to unlock all the features of the program and will have access to all registry repairs. There are only free registry cleaners that allow you to have access to all repair functions so make sure to test those out before purchasing this software. Some complaints that people have about this software is its recurring annual registration fee. Most registry cleaners do not have recurring fees and this can add up over time. Registry Mechanic works on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and all other windows operating systems. Make sure to perform a registry cleaner review before purchasing any software.
